Things to do - general

Basic Information

Karlštejn is one of the most visited castles of the Czech Republic, famous for its long history. This castle was founded in 1348 by the Czech King and Roman Emperor, Charles IV, a very important leader in the entire Czech and European history, as a storage for royal jewels, Holy Relics and Roman Crown Jewels. A very interesting fact says that this castle was accessible only to men; every woman, even wives were forbidden entry to this secured fortress. Apart from the old village, there’s a long street on the way back from the castle which is full of little unique shops preserved in their original condition, selling different kinds of traditional homemade and unique ancient Czech goods.
